30 day book meme - Day 4 (and work)
Apr. 26th, 2011 10:21 pmI am now working as a cashier at Books Kinokuniya. :D I had my Orientation yesterday and today was my first real day of work, though I'm still being trained.
I am SO TIRED. It was an eight-hour shift today (excluding the 1 hour and fifteen minutes of lunch break, though I was still walking around the large mall looking for somewhere to eat, and then I ate fast and walked around the comics section of the store XD) and there are no seats available behind the counter, so I was pretty much standing and walking about the whole time. My shoulders ache like hell and my feet are just as bad.
Yet I didn't mind too much, because it's a huge BOOKSTORE. Selling books and stationery to people kind of makes up for it. I was amazed at the crowd and the number of sales (today was the first time I got to hold a thousand-dollar note, too!) on a weekday - and I left before 7pm, too - but I'm not complaining. XD
Now for today's book meme question.
4. The book that’s been on your shelves the longest.
Hmm. Most likely a little Lion King book I got for my third or fourth birthday from my father's brother and two sisters. I was completely obsessed with The Lion King at the time and remained so for years, and this book was really special to me because it featured me as a character - the book is told from the POV of "Roobi", aka me, as she goes on an adventure with Simba, Timon and Pumbaa. She even gets to help save the day. :D She also constantly makes references to "Uncle Arasu", "Aunt Neelu" and "Aunt Kothai".
It's still got my name in crayon and ugly childish handwriting on the inside cover, together with a photo of tiny!me in a beautiful sticker frame, and to this day I treasure the book, bite-marks and all. (No, I do not know why I decided to bite my book when I was a child. At least it's only in one place, and not all over.)

Date: 26/4/11 03:14 pm (UTC)I think mine is a picture book with little poems about circus animals.
Sounds like you played dog and carried it in your teeth to me.

Date: 26/4/11 03:30 pm (UTC)That sounds cute! Some of my earliest books had been my siblings' before me, so my sister is keeping a few of them, and I think my dad got rid of the rest. :/ I do have one or two left though, but most of my childhood books (including my impressive Enid Blyton collection ;_; ) have been gotten rid of.
Actually, I remember doing it. I remember just raising it to my mouth and biting down. I don't remember thinking anything much, though I remember how it felt between my teeth. o_O (I doubt I was 'playing dog' as the only animal I ever pretended to be was a lion cub, aka Simba himself, but mostly I renamed various family members as Lion King characters. My sister was so annoyed that I had declared her Zazu. XD) I wish I hadn't, though, the book would look much better without that semicircular line of depressions on top. XD

Date: 26/4/11 04:14 pm (UTC)I did something similiar. I think I was four or five and sitting in Mum's lap in a doctor's waiting room. I was scared and looking for comfort and pressed my lips to Mum's breast like a baby suckling - in public! So Mum pushed me away: "One doesn't do that!". I got angry and bit into the golden medallion she always wore.
She'd gotten it from my great-grandmother and it has my great-grandparents' wedding picture inside ... and since that day my teeth marks, so it can't be worn anymore. :(
